Professor May Lwin is Chair and President’s Chair Professor of Communication Studies at Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI), Nanyang Technological University (NTU). She also serves as Joint Professor (Honorary) in the NTU LKC School of Medicine.
Prof Lwin specialises in strategic health communication. Her research projects involve the utilization, design and assessment of digitally mediated health communication systems and social media to improve public health. Her research on technology use in promoting physical activity and nutrition education amongst children are being piloted in many schools while her work on mobile media use for infectious diseases has been piloted in Singapore and regional countries. She is currently in partnership with NCID, leading research programmes on social media monitoring during the COVID-19 infodemic and countering medical misinformation. She has been actively involved in OneHealth programmes in partnership with Ending Pandemics, which includes the successful Mo-buzz programme for vector participatory surveillance in Sri Lanka. She is also an active volunteer, serving with the Singapore Heart Foundation and Sunlight Alliance for Action (AfA).
A Fellow of the International Communication Association (ICA), Prof Lwin has authored numerous peer-reviewed papers, books and book chapters, many of which have received awards including the prestigious Outstanding Applied Research Award by the ICA and the Fulbright ASEAN Scholar Award.

This includes: 1) Genetic uniqueness of pathogens vis-a-vis pathogenicity and symptom severity, 2) Role of human host genetic make-up towards modulating pathogen's pathogenicity, 3) Role of co-infections in delineating pathogen outcome, and 4) Cross-talk b/w Cellular heterogeneity (Single Cell Genomics) and effective Immune response. The pathogen and host response findings have been published in more than 80 research articles in journals inclusive of Nature, Science, Lancet, Nature Communications, Genome Biology, and Frontiers in Microbiology.

Dr. Senjuti Saha is a molecular microbiologist and an activist based in Bangladesh, working at the intersection of clinical microbiology and global health. She completed her PhD in Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto in Canada, and received post-doctoral training at the Hospital for Sick Children, Canada and Stanford University, USA. Dr. Saha moved to Bangladesh in 2016 to work on the front lines of public health. At present, she is a Director and Scientist at the Child Health Research Foundation, where she is conducting fundamental studies on infectious diseases in Bangladesh, integrating clinical epidemiology with molecular laboratory-based investigations and genomic analyses. Dr. Saha focuses on pediatric preventable infectious diseases, with the goals of using modern molecular technologies including on-site metagenomics to identify etiologies that evade standard laboratory testing in resource-constrained settings. Her work was the first to show the direct presence of chikungunya virus in the cerebrospinal fluid of children, causing meningitis. She has also led the design of low-cost diagnostic tools to detect bacterial and viral pathogens and track antimicrobial resistance, making significant contributions in understanding the epidemiology of typhoid and its antibiotic resistance patterns in Bangladesh. Dr. Saha’s work also specializes on estimating the indirect impacts of vaccines on the overall health system of resource-constrained settings. Dr. Saha and her team were the first to sequence the SARS-CoV-2 genome in Bangladesh. She has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles in international scientific journals. She is a member of the Polio Transition Independent Monitoring Board of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, and sits on the editorial board of multiple international journals. Dr. Saha believes that everyone across the world should have equal access to the practice and benefits of science. Her mission is to break free of the vicious cycle of limited resources that lead to lack of data required for evidence-based policy decisions, which lead back to limited resources; and instead, commit to building virtuous cycles of data-generation, that are sustainable and cost-effective. Her team’s work is grounded in advancing health and research equity in Bangladesh, and beyond. Being a relentless advocate for equal access to science education, she launched a nationwide program called "Building Scientists for Banglades". Dr. Saha hopes to inspire others to join her movement with the motto, ‘science by and for the many, not the few’.

Professor Dr Lau Yee Ling is at present the Head of the Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine at University of Malaya (UM). Her scientific career has been dedicated to the study of protozoan parasites, including Plasmodium knowlesi and Toxoplasma gondii, the causative agents of malaria and toxoplasmosis, respectively. Her research interest mainly focuses on using molecular methods for the detection and characterization of these parasites infecting humans and animals. She has collaborated with local and international researchers, leading to publication of more than 200 ISI journals, with H-index of 28. Since 2009, 13 Masters and 17 PhDs have completed their studies with success under her guidance. Currently, they are 3 Masters and 9 PhDs under her supervision.

Prof. Xian Jun Loh completed his basic and postgraduate studies at the National University of Singapore. A polymer chemist by training, he is currently the Executive Director of the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE), A*STAR. As a pioneer and recognised global expert in the area of biodegradable thermogels, he is highly knowledgeable in developing these materials for various applications spanning biomedical, engineering, cosmetics, personal care and food. His scientific contributions have earned him the position of Fellowship in Fitzwiliam College in the University of Cambridge, Fellowship in the Royal Society of Chemistry, Fellowship in IOM3 - The Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining and Fellowship of the Institution of Engineering and Technology. He is also awarded the Highly Cited Researcher Award by Clarivate Analytics. He is also the current President and member of the Executive Committee of the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry. With his extensive experience in authoring >270 journal papers, 38 patents and know-hows, more than 30 book chapters and 7 books, he currently sits on several editorial boards of international journals as an expert in his area. He has also successfully helped in the commercialisation of 8 different products and is always interested in the translation of science to products.

Since 2021, she serves as Lead for the newly established Infectious Diseases Horizontal Technology Coordinating Office which aligns A*STAR’s collective capability and efforts for epidemic preparedness and response. Dr Tan graduated from the National University of Singapore and obtained his MRCP (Edinburgh) in 1995. He went on to train in infectious diseases in Singapore and at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. He has been Head of Infectious Diseases and of Internal Medicine at SGH. He is currently Infectious Diseases Lead with SingHealth Transplant, and is President of the Transplant Infections Disease Section of The Transplantation Society. He served for 9 years as co-chair of the Asia Fungal Working Group. Dr Tan has a keen interest in the study of infections in immunocompromised hosts, and is particularly interested in infections in transplant recipients and febrile neutropenic patients

During this time, he was involved in COVID-19 national immunisation programme, charting the local vaccine ecosystem, monitoring the National Vaccine Development Roadmap (NVDR) and its implementation. He received his D.Phil from the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics from University of Oxford and have also worked as a postdoctoral scientist in the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, John Radcliffe Hospital, University of Oxford.

Prof Lisa Ng graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) in the United Kingdom in 1995. Following this, she then obtained her PhD in Molecular Virology in coronaviruses in 2002. The research interest of her group focuses on the immune responses of arthrogenic arboviruses that are epidemic or highly endemic in the tropical region. These include chikungunya virus, dengue virus, Zika virus, other related alpha- and flavi-viruses. Since 2020, her team has been deeply involved with COVID-19, with a strong focus on infection and immunity. She is current Executive Director of A*STAR’s Infectious Diseases Labs and is a Singapore National Academy of Science (SNAS) fellow.

He obtained a permanent position as a research scientist at the French National Institute of Health (INSERM) in 1993. He joined the Singapore Immunology Network (A*STAR) in 2007 and became later its Executive Director. His scientific interests cover the immunology of infectious disease.

Indra Vythilingam (PhD) is currently an Honorary Professor in the Department of Parasitology, Universiti Malaya (UM). She has contributed vastly to the field of vector biology and control when she worked in the Institute for Medical Research (IMR) in Kuala Lumpur. Currently working vectors of simian malaria in Malaysia. She has published about 160 articles in peer reviewed International and local journals. She has served as a WHO consultant on many occasions. She was awarded the Sandosham Gold medal in 2007 by the Malaysian Society of Parasitology and Tropical Medicine for her contribution towards parasitology and Tropical Medicine. In 2017 received Malaysia’s Research star Award for outstanding national research in Tropical diseases from the Ministry of Higher Education and Elsevier.
